1,500 kg drugs seizure underlines growing smuggling problem in Caribbean Basin
The Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard seized 51 bales of cocaine this week following the pursuit of a "go-fast" boat off the South coast of St. Maarten, according to local reports.
After being supported by the Coast Guard's Dash 8 reconnaissance aircraft, the Royal Netherlands Navy patrol vessel Friesland intercepted the vessel before the three smugglers were arrested with 1,500 kilos of cocaine on board. It marks the Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard's largest ever contraband seizure.
