London - 27th February 2012 - Admiral Datuk Mohd Amdan bin Kurish, Director General, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has recently come on board the largest and most important OPV gathering of Coast Guards and Navies in the Asia-Pacific region. The MMEA joins a highly-influential speaker panel, which includes senior representatives from India, Pakistan, Taiwan, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Philippines, Turkey and Bahrain.

Admiral Datuk Mohd Amdan bin Kurish’s highly-anticipated presentation will give an overview of joint operations and Malaysia’s use of OPVs to enhance maritime enforcement. The MMEA currently has active requirements for offshore patrol vessels and Admiral Datuk Mohd Amdan bin Kurish’s talk will be instructive for industry representatives looking to work with the agency.

Alongside Malaysia, Offshore Patrol Vessels Asia-Pacific 2012 will be bringing together important representatives from the region with active requirements, including India and South Korea. The Indian MoD recently announced that they will be ordering a second batch of 5 OPVs and South Korea will be ordering 6 new OPVs.

As the OPV industry continues to shrink in Europe and North America, the Asian market, which currently accounts for over 40% of the global OPV market, has become a region which most international companies are looking to invest in. Offshore Patrol Vessels Asia-Pacific is the only annual conference where industry professionals are able to meet with senior representatives from a diverse range of navies and coast guards with active requirements in the Asia-Pacific region.

In addition to the main conference, there will also be a focus day on fast interdiction missions, which are central to operations against piracy at sea for countries in the Far East, including India, Sri Lanka and Taiwan, which have procured large numbers of fast interdiction craft.
