Africa must bolster maritime surveillance capabilities to supress piracy, terrorism
Former president of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has spoken out against the escalating piracy problem off the coast of West Africa and called for the Nigerian government, ECOWAS and international authorities to pool their maritime surveillance capabilities and work together to continue the fight.
Although the Navy and other bodies are working towards quashing the pirate insurgency, Abubakar cites the challenges of bureaucracy as the immovable object to piracy’s unstoppable force.
