Canada has confirmed it is building a fleet of Arctic patrol ships as part of the Canadian government's National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy and to provide naval support in the Arctic region. Seven years after initially announcing the plan, the government has finally committed to buying five Arctic patrol ships. The final number may be six but that will depend on whether the shipyard can supply another. The $3.5bn programme aimed to deliver eight when first announced and cost $400m less....
