A total of 458 submarines (excluding midgets) are currently operated by 41 countries. Of these, 193 (42 percent) are operated by China, Russia and the United States. A further 92 submarines are under construction or on order. Of those on order, 35 (38 percent) are for Asian Navies and 36 (39 percent) are for European Navies.
