Cowboy Fishermen: Iceland's Coast Guard Takes on Lawbreakers with New Vessel
Lt Snorre Greil is a navigation officer in the Icelandic Coast Guard and he gives us a sneak peak at Iceland's newest OPV - direct from Chile. Iceland's Coast Guard boasts a large remit: within the Icelandic EEZ, they are responsible for patrolling some 754,000 square kms. Its Maritime SAR area of responsibility is, in fact, much larger - 1.9 million square kms. Policing duties comprise a significant component of patrolling missions and the enforcement of maritime law will become more manageable when Iceland takes delivery of its newest OPV this year.
