Interview with Dr. Norman Friedman, International Naval Consultant and Author

Add bookmark

The discussion addressed several key sectors of the naval sector including the following:

1) The Littoral Combat Ship (LCS)
2) DDX/Arleigh Burke Class Destroyers
3) Aircraft Carriers
4) Submarines
5) Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs)

Dr. Friedman is not a supporter of LCS as he believes the requirement is confused. He is, however, a supporter of the building of more Arleigh Burke class destroyers, as an alternative to the DDX program.

He is also a long-term proponent of the value of aircraft carriers and submarines, but not OPVs, which he believes to be poorly armed, cheap compromise solutions for an increasing number of naval roles.
