William Schoenster is the Littoral Combat Ship Programme Director for the US Department of Defense. He talks to the full gamut of LCS programme design and capability. From mine warfare to anti-submarine warfare to surface warfare, the design strategy has approached the LCS mission from a fresh perspective. Likewise, steerable water jet propulsion and hullforms specifically designed for brown water littoral operations exemplify the creative approach to meeting coastal defence demands. He also goes into specific detail concerning Lockheed Martin's USS Freedom (LCS-1) - and explains why it is a success story for the US Navy.
