Lieutenant General Dato’ Sri Haji Abdul Mutalib bin Datuk Hj Ab Wahab RMAF was born on 28thJuly 1960 in Kg Alai, Malacca, Malaysia. He joined the Malaysian Armed Forces on 2ndJune 1978, and was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant in the RMAF on 23rd June 1979.Upon graduation from basic flying school in 1980, he was assigned to No 1 Squadron as squadron pilot flying the Caribou aircraft. He later underwent the Qualified Flying Instructor (QFI) Course in RMAF Alor Setar. Appointments that he has held during his career include Instructor at the RMAF Cadet School, C-130H Pilot, QFI and Examiner, RMAF Intelligence Officer, Commanding Officer of the Squadron Officer School and the Flying Instructor Training Institute, Director of RMAF Training, Labuan Base Commander, Chief of Staff of No 1 Air Division, Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff of Development and Planning at the Armed Forces Headquarters, Chief of Staff of RMAF Air Operation Headquarters and RMAF Air Support Commander. He has also served with the United Nations (UN) for Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) from 2004 to 2005. He is currently the Air Operations Commander since December 2016.


Lieutenant General Dato’ Sri Hj Abdul Mutalib RMAF has attended various courses at home and abroad, among them the Air Command and Staff College Course in Thailand from 1995 to 1996. He also attended the Strategic Intelligence Combined Course in the United States in 1999.  Most recently, he attended the Strategic and Defence Studies course at the National Defence University in Beijing, China for one year in 2013.


Lieutenant General Dato’ Sri Haji Abdul Mutalib RMAF has extensive experience in the conduct of military exercises and bilateral and multi-lateral relations with foreign military forces. He was responsible for planning and coordinating various operations and exercises involving the RMAF both domestically and overseas.


He has also been involved with real operations.  Amongst the challenging task that was the numerous C130 logistic flight support into Cambodia, Somali and Bosnia between 1991 till 1995 during the wars.  He had also headed the OPS Piramid on Feb 2011 evacuating total of 3482 Malaysians out of Mesir using 3 C130H supported by 148 crew.  The recent operation was OPS Murni in Dec 2014, headed close to 20 air assets in support of the big flood in east coast of Malaysia. 


Lieutenant General Dato’ Sri Haji Abdul Mutalib RMAF is married to Datin Sri Hajah Normah binti Mad Sap, and they are blessed with two sons.  He embraces an active lifestyle and particularly enjoys the sport of golf and shooting.
