NATO's Counter-IED Chief in Afghanistan: 'We Must Become Counter-IED Aware'

About this Podcast...

More than half of all casualties in Afghanistan are attributed to IED attacks - and this accounts for increased scrutiny of counter-IED efforts at ISAF HQ in Kabul, Afghanistan. In this exclusive interview, Defence IQ's Richard de Silva had the opportunity to speak with Lieutenant Colonel Martin Gliniecki, Chief of Staff of the Counter-IED Branch at ISAF, about coalition counter-IED strategy in the Afghan theatre. They touch on issues in training ANSF to not only master a technical understanding of counter-IED tactics, but to also establish intelligence and administration facilities in Afghanistan to maintain the intensity of the fight after 2014. In addition, the technical challenge resident in 'attacking the network' has come up against serious obstacles as operations continue. Listen to find out more.
