The U.S. has the world’s largest tactical radio programme: the Joint Tactical Radio System, better known as JTRS, which has been developed for the US Army, Marine Corps and Air Force. The JTRS programme consists of several segments including the US Army’s Ground Mobile Radio (GMR) and Handheld; Manpack; Small Form Factor (HMS) set, which is being developed by General Dynamics and Thales; the Airborne Maritime Fixed (AMF) station, which will equip Boeing AH-64 and Boeing CH-47 Chinook attack and transport helicopters respectively; and Lockheed Hercules C-130 transports.
