Drew Brugal is the President of Vision Systems International and a former US Naval Aviator and is well aware of the challenges facing aircrew engaged in low light and night time operations. The majority of airborne combat operations in Afghanistan are conducted in these low light conditions and require night vision technology. Fixed wing helmet mounted displays employed in the aviation environment have to be extremely lightweight, durable, and extremely accurate. Here, he discusses the challenges of transforming operational requirements into cockpit ready technology.
