We return to our interview with Wayne Phillips, Director of Microsoft Defence Solutions, in Part VI of our on-going series. He paints a picture of how military technologies are finding civil applications in times of crisis or natural disaster. Valuable crossover applications of military technology are becoming a part of modern day disaster response. However, it must be coordinated in a unique way. DART (Disaster Assistance Response Team) is Microsoft's answer to bridging this gap. It allows for multiple interfaces enabling a staged command and control system and was first used within NATO.
