Spain to Purchase IRIS-T Missiles

The Spanish government has given the go-ahead for a EUR247.3 million (US$344 million) purchase of 770 IRIS-T (Infra-Red Imaging System) air-to-air missiles to replace the existing AIM-9 Sidewinders used by the Spanish Air Force. Spain will officially join a consortium for the German-led project that also includes Italy, Norway, Sweden and Greece.
