Authorities in Greece say Libyan ruler Muammar Qaddafi is seeking to negotiate an end to the fighting that has pitted his forces against antigovernment rebels since February.

Qaddafi sent his deputy foreign minister, Abdelati al-Obeidi, to Athens on April 3 to hold negotiations with Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou.
The two countries have enjoyed friendly relations in recent years.
