The UK and France have launched a collaborative effort to explore technologies for a new anti-ship missile which will arm their respective AgustaWestland Lynx Wildcat and Eurocopter AS565 Panther and NH Industries NH90 helicopters. MBDA UK will lead the 27-month, £35 million ($58.4 million) assessment phase into the roughly 100kg (220lb)-class weapon. To enter service around 2015, this will be capable of attacking ships with a displacement of up to 500 tons.
