UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown has announced a package of "additional" intelligence, surveillance, targeting and reconnaissance (ISTAR) and counter-improvised explosive device (IED) equipment to support UK troops in Afghanistan. This includes the deployment of 200 additional explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) specialists, the purchase of 20 new Force Protection Ridgback protected patrol vehicles and extra flying hours for Royal Air Force and British Army UAVs.
