The Fighter market is still buoyant, with a forecast value of $160 Billion over the next 10 years. The F-35 Joint Strike Fighter will be the largest programme and based on current plans, will be the only U.S. fighter programme after 2015. In Europe, Typhoon, Rafale and Gripen have healthy order books, but all three are being aggressively marketed to secure export orders. Meanwhile, Russia’s fifth generation fighter prototype has flown and China’s first flight is reportedly imminent. Several countries have ongoing fighter acquisition programmes, with Romania having recently opted for second-hand F-16s and the Brazilian and Indian programmes considered the highest profile competitions at present.
