1940 was the year that brought the Second World War to Great Britain's doorstep. There has been no greater event in the history of the Royal Air Force. There has been no instance of such drawn out air-to-air combat where the stakes were so high. The Battle of Britain celebrates its 70th anniversary this month and next.

We pay tribute to the aircrew and groundcrew who effectively produced this costly turn in the tide of World War II. In this interview, we are privileged to speak with Professor Edgar Jones of King's College London.

He is the professor of the history of medicine and psychiatry at the Institute of Psychiatry and King’s Centre for Military Health Research. Professor jones also specialises as a historian in the study of war related trauma in veterans of the First and Second World Wars and has been featured on several documentaries on BBC and Channel 4.
