Despite an on-going security handover and a gradual drawdown, the significant number of casualties in Afghanistan continues to demand a first-class MEDEVAC capability. Swedish forces have been taking the challenge head-on.
Since April, the Swedish Air Force’s new UH-60M Black Hawk fleet replaced its Super Pumas in Afghanistan within the SAE ISAF MEDEVAC unit. Fifteen of the aircraft have been procured this year to meet a programme estimated to be worth $750 million in total.
