The Intelligence, Surveillance, Target-Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) component of the Royal Air Force is, in essence, the UK’s airborne eyes and ears, collecting a massive amount of information wherever required and then turning that into intelligence that can be used from the strategic to tactical levels. Of course, while it can be a challenge to process and exploit so much data, it is critical to ensure that the intelligence enables optimal, timely and effective decisions.
