Ecuador to Acquire Second-Hand Fighters

Ecuador is to receive Mirage 50s, donated by Venezuela and Cheetah Cs, purchased from South Africa to replace its Mirage F-1Es fighters. 10 Mirage 50s are being delivered, of which four will be used for spares and 12 Cheetah Cs are being purchased, for a reported $35 million. These aircraft are being acquired as interim replacements, pending selection of a next-generation fighter, which is planned to be acquired in approximately 5 years time, subject to funding being available.
