Air Marshal Stu Evans (Ret)
Air Marshal Evans joined the Royal Air Force in 1983 as a pilot. After training and a first tour as a flying instructor he served on a number of Tornado GR1/4 Squadrons, both in the United Kingdom (UK) and in Germany, and was certified as a Tornado Qualified Weapons instructor and Qualified Flying Instructor. In 2004 he was posted to command IX(B) Squadron (Tornado GR4) at Royal Air Force Marham where he led a number of operational deployments in support of Operation TELIC, the UK military operations in Iraq from 2003 to 2011, and on the first NATO OPEVAL of the Tornado force for over 10 years.
Following promotion to Group Captain he was posted to the Air Warfare Centre, with responsibility for delivery of operational test and evaluation for all UK air platforms.
Staff training has included attendance at the Royal Australian Air Force Staff College in Canberra in 2000 and the 4-month Higher Command and Staff Course at the Defence College in 2011.
Other staff tours have included the Weapons and Electronic Warfare post in Headquarters Number 1 Gp and as an SO1 with the Directorate of Operational Capability Audit team in the Ministry of Defence. He also served as the first Royal Air Force member within the Strategic Studies Group working directly for the Chief of the United States Air Force in the Pentagon, followed by promotion to Air Commodore and a tour at the Defence Doctrine and Concepts Centre as Head of Joint Doctrine. He returned to the Air Warfare Centre in July 2011 as the Commandant, followed by an overseas deployment as the CAOC Director, Al Udeid in the summer of 2013.
Prior to assuming the appointment of Senior British Military Advisor to US Central Command in Florida in the rank of Air Vice-Marshal, he served within the Joint Forces Command at Northwood.
Air Marshal Evans is married to Caz and has 2 daughters who enjoy filling his spare time. His other interests include cryptic crosswords, running and riding his Ducati.
