'Pre-emptive War' Gains Credence as Information Operations Accelerate in Present Day Campaigns
Pre-emptive war - it's a new concept, but it's entering many modern warfighters' parlance as a credible means of 'pre-empting' full scale kinetic operations. Brigadier General Ed Burley is commander of the US Army's 352nd Civil Affairs Command and, here, speaks with Defence IQ about the revolution going on in the field of Information Operations. He specifically addresses the way in which psychological operations really began adding to kinetic operations in Iraq beginning in 2006. He talks about progress that has been made in training Iraqi Forces in IO and PSYOPS, and the lessons learned that have emerged from international operations in Afghanistan.
