London14 June 2010: Chris Granville-White, Vice Admiral Sir Jeremy Blackham KCB and Air Commodore Peter Gray analyse the decisions that face the armed forces in light of the Strategic Defence & Security Review (SDSR). The issues at the top of the agenda include the changing security context, what capabilities remain essential to our security and what the implications of the review might mean.

Chris Granville-White, CBE, Gp Capt RAF (Ret’d) stated, ‘’Britain’s Strategic Defence and Security Review, initiated by the new Coalition Government, will determine the future shape, size and capability of our armed forces for years to come. It is therefore important for us to understand the key issues being considered for the security of the Country.’’

The SDSR will have an impact on the armed forces of the United Kingdom for years to come. For the first time the government attempt to join up strategic defence and national security agendas into one coherent policy. The Queen highlighted the importance of this in her speech on 25th May by saying, "My Government will fully support our courageous armed forces and undertake a full Strategic Defence and Security Review."
