Colonel Barbara Jones is the Squadron Commander for the US Air Force's 43rd Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron. This unit operated at high tempo in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and remains active in Afghanistan. She describes how much of her work resides at the command and control level. She also discusses the demands placed on her unit, including intensive aerial flight training involved in maintaining operational readiness, as well as the high incidence of critical cardiac cases typical of battlefield injuries.
