Ukraine ups defence budget as Russian threat escalates
Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk is bolstering the country’s defence budget with an additional 6.8 billion hryvnia (US $697 million) set aside for mobilising troops and modernising weapon systems following the recent annexation of Crimea by Russia.
"Today we are talking about protecting our country," Yatsenyuk said in a statement." All other expenses are not worth anything if the Ukrainian Army, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are not able to protect the state."
