Headquartered in West Falls Church, Virginia, General Dynamics was established in 1952 by the merging of the Electric Boat Company and Consolidated Vultee (CONVAIR) among others.
The defence contractor has four main operating units: Marine Systems, Combat Systems, Information Systems and Technology, and Aerospace.
The company has grown through a number of acquisitions, one of the more recent and significant being that of Force Protection Inc., the company behind many of the MRAP armoured vehicles supplied to the U.S. Army over the last decade.
General Dynamics is currently working on the Future Rapid Effects System (FRES), the UK’s next generation of armoured vehicles.
