The US tops the list of military spenders with a 2013 outlay reaching $640 billion, according to think tank SIPRI.
China and Russia follow, although their combined total of $275.8 billion isn’t even half that of their big spending rival in the West.
Saudi Arabia spends the most on defence per capita, with almost 10% of GDP going towards the world’s fourth largest military budget.
