On Monday, the Defence Secretary Chuck Hagel outlined his recommendations for trimming U.S. Army personnel numbers from 520,000 to between 440,000 and 450,000. The 13% reduction is yet to be ratified by Congress although if it passes it will mean the Army is at its lowest level since before World War Two.
