Sinking US defence budget likely to affect military capabilties for years to come

On Monday, the Defence Secretary Chuck Hagel outlined his recommendations for trimming U.S. Army personnel numbers from 520,000 to between 440,000 and 450,000. The 13% reduction is yet to be ratified by Congress although if it passes it will mean the Army is at its lowest level since before World War Two.
