Operation Moshtarak has commenced in Afghanistan. With about 15,000 soldiers taking part, including 4,000 from Britain, it is the largest operation since the conflict in Afghanistan began in 2001. The plan is to regain control of Central Helmand province. U.S. Marines moved in on the Taliban-held town of Marjah, while British forces arrived in the Char-e-Anjir triangle, an insurgent stronghold to the northeast.
