Hammond to establish defence procurement watchdog

In a new defence procurement whitepaper due to be released today, the Defence Secretary Philip Hammond will announce that he is creating an independent watchdog to oversee the awarding of defence contracts in a bid to save the taxpayer millions of pounds. Over half of the contracts awarded to companies do not go out to tender and Hammond wants to ensure that there is transparency in the process.
