Brigadier Owen Bunkle was born in North Norfolk and educated at Fakenham College, King’s College London and Sandhurst. He commissioned into The Royal Logistic Corps in 1997. Regimentally, he has served with 23 Pioneer Regiment RLC, 4 General Support Regiment RLC, Northern Ireland Combat Service Support Battalion, 3 Close Support Regiment RLC as Adjutant and then Officer Commanding 32 Close Support Squadron and he commanded 4 Close Support Logistic Regiment RLC - the best two and a half years of his career to date. At staff he has worked at: the Directorate Royal Logistic Corps, Army Headquarters, the Joint Services Command and Staff College as Directing Staff and Divisional Director on the Intermediate Command and Staff Course (Land) and the Permanent Joint Headquarters as SO1 Mounting and Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff J4 Ops and Plans, from where he also undertook a project to deliver a Strategic Base Outload Headquarters for Defence. Post command he deployed on Operation SHADER as the Executive Officer to the Command General, Combined Joint Force Land Component Commander (Operation Inherent Resolve) Iraq. He took up his current appointment in MOD Main Building, working to the Assistant Chief of Defence Staff (Support Operations), in May 2020. A graduate of ICSC, ACSC and HCSC, he has served in Bosnia, Northern Ireland, and Iraq and exercised in the United Kingdom, Germany, Canada and Poland. Married to Joanna, a Potential Coach, they have two sons. Outside of work he has all the normal Army Officer interests, with particular focus on War Studies and military history, the subject of both his degrees. He is never happier than when outside in nature with his family, shooting, or conducting land management. Being from Norfolk, he has a genetic aversion to hills.
