Colonel Kaspars Miezītis

Col. Kaspars Miezītis assumed duties as the Head of the State Defence Military Facilities and Procurement Centre of Latvia in April 2025. The Centre is an institution under the Ministry of Defence responsible for managing and developing military infrastructure, organizing procurements, and providing logistical services. It oversees the administration of real estate and military facilities, implements construction projects, and ensures compliance with environmental protection requirements in military areas. The Centre also provides services to the National Armed Forces and other institutions. Col. Miezītis was commissioned from the Latvian Military Academy in 2000 as an infantry officer, earning a Bachelor of Education. After graduation, he served in the Latvian Zemessardze 51st Infantry Battalion as Scout Platoon Commander and later as the Battalion Operations (S-3) Planning Officer. He was promoted to captain and assigned to the Latvian Training and Doctrine Command, followed by a posting to the Latvian National Armed Forces Joint Headquarters (J-4) as an ordnance officer. Upon promotion to major, he completed the Combined Logistics Captains Career Course and later the Theater Logistics Course at the U.S. Army Logistics University, Fort Lee. As a major, he served in the Latvian Zemessardze Headquarters (G-4) as Section Head of the Sustainment Planning and Control Section. After graduating from the Joint Command and General Staff Course at the Baltic Defence College in Estonia, he assumed command of the Zemessardze 51st Infantry Battalion. Following his battalion command, Col. Miezītis was assigned to the Latvian National Armed Forces Joint Headquarters (J-4) in Riga as Department Head, leading operational-level logistics planning. He was later posted to NATO Joint Force Command Brunssum as Head of the Military Partnership Branch, where for three years he was responsible for providing advice and military assistance to support defence and security sector reform activities in NATO partner countries, including, where appropriate, assisting integration into Euro-Atlantic structures. After his NATO assignment, Col. Miezītis served at the Latvian Ministry of Defence as Deputy Head of Change Management and Digitalization. In this role, he was responsible for introducing digital solutions for the National Armed Forces and implementing data management innovations. In June 2023, he assumed command of the 2nd Vidzeme Brigade in Valmiera, where he was responsible for State defence activities and military cooperation with local municipalities and government organizations. During his service, Col. Miezītis was deployed to the NATO-led security mission in Afghanistan as a logistics officer and led inspection visits to Latvian deployed units in Kosovo and Afghanistan. Col. Miezītis is married to Ināra Miezīte, and they have three children. In his free time, he enjoys motorcycling and is a founding member of the Latvian Military Motorcycle Club “PATRIOTI”.
