Norway signs up for another 62 LMVs from Iveco

Norway is continuing to boost its military forces with the addition of another 62 Light Multirole Vehicles (LMVs) from Iveco Defence Vehicles. The order brings the total number of LMVs procured by the Norwegian Defence Logistics Organisation to 170. The value of the vehicles and the contract lead time has not been divulged.

The Nordic armoured vehicle market is booming despite the stagnant economy in the rest of Europe, most notably with Norway’s $750 million CV90 upgrade programme announced last year.

Iveco’s LMV has been adopted by the Italian Army (under the name VTLM Lince, or Lynx), is known to the British Army as the Panther, and has been sought out by Belgium, Croatia, Norway, Russia and Spain.

Norway’s 2013 defence budget was revised up 3% at the end of last year to $7.3 billion. Speaking of the CV-90 deal in 2012, Rear Admiral Morten Jacobsen of the Norwegian Defence Logistics Organisation , said:

“This is one of the largest investments ever made in the Army. Delivery will take place between 2015 and 2017, and forms an important part of our overall modernization efforts and will provide the Armed Forces and the Army with the capabilities they need to carry out future operations both domestically and internationally.”

The addition of more LMVs to it armoured vehicle fleet further expands Norway’s modernisation efforts; a trend which looks set to continue in the mid-term.
