General Frank Gorenc served as Commander of U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Africa, Commander of NATO Allied Air Command, and Director of the Joint Air Power Competence Centre in Germany. He oversaw Air Force operations across 104 countries spanning Europe, Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and multiple oceans—covering over 19 million square miles and impacting over a quarter of the world’s population and GDP. Born in Ljubljana, Slovenia, General Gorenc commanded at every level, from fighter squadron to expeditionary wing, and held leadership roles in the Air Force District of Washington and a component Numbered Air Force. His staff assignments included positions with Air Combat Command, the Air Staff, Joint Staff, and U.S. European Command/Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe. Before his final role, he was the Assistant Vice Chief of Staff and Director of the Air Staff at U.S. Air Force Headquarters in Washington, D.C. A command pilot, General Gorenc logged more than 4,800 flight hours over his distinguished career.
