The French Navy is discussing with DCNS the possibility of an unsolicited loan of a prototype OPV (offshore patrol vessel). DCNS is funding the construction of "Hermes" itself, with completion due in 2011. If the deal goes through, the navy would crew and operate the 80m vessel.
