Lieutenant General Maciej Klisz began his military career in 1991 and was commissioned in 1995, initially serving as an airborne infantry officer with Poland's 6th Airborne Brigade. He completed the U.S. Army's Airborne, Pathfinder, and Ranger Schools at Fort Benning in 2001. Between 2006 and 2016, he served in the Polish Special Operations Forces, holding senior command and staff roles across the tactical, operational, and strategic levels. In 2016, he transitioned to the Territorial Defence Forces, later serving as Commanding General. His education includes a Master's in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College and a Master's in Management from the National Defence Academy in Warsaw. He has operational experience in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Afghanistan, and has received numerous Polish, NATO, and international military decorations, including the U.S. Bronze Star Medal. In October 2023, he was appointed Operational Commander of the Polish Armed Forces.
