Lieutenant-General Michel Van Strythem has a Master of Science in Engineering in Telecommunications from the Royal Military Academy, Brussels, with extensive experience in UAV integration, doctrine, governance, and strategic planning. He led the introduction of the B-HUNTER UAV, commanded the 80th UAV Squadron, contributed to major defence legislation and strategic visions, and later served as Cyber Commander. Appointed Lieutenant-General in 2025, he now serves as Chief Innovation Defense and Chief Task Force Drones, advising on military robotics and countermeasures, focusing on modernising Belgian Defence towards an adaptive enabler of innovation.
