Eurofighter Typhoon is the world's most advanced new generation multi-/swing-role combat aircraft currently available on the world market. As Europe’s largest military collaborative programme, it delivers both air dominance and effective air to ground capability through leading-edge technologies and unrivalled performance. It has been ordered by eight nations (Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Austria, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Kuwait).
Eurofighter Jagdflugzeug GmbH manages the programme on behalf of its Eurofighter Partner Companies (EPCs) Airbus Defence and Space, BAE Systems and Leonardo. The twin-engine aircraft is the effective, proven and trusted backbone of European air power and sustains approx. 100,000 highly-skilled jobs and a network of about 400 suppliers.
Since Eurofighter Typhoon entered into service in 2003, almost 600 orders have been accumulated, more than 500 aircraft delivered and more than 400,000 flying hours achieved with unparalleled levels of reliability. Final assembly facilities are based in Warton, UK; Manching, Germany; Getafe, Spain and Turin, Italy.
The customer nations, working with industry support, ensure Typhoon is available for full operational duty, protecting and defending national air space 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In addition to these Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) missions, roles of the aircraft also include, for instance, air dominance, close air support, deep strike, etc.
The Eurofighter Typhoon is playing a key role in a number of operational deployments such as NATO’s Baltic Air Policing in the Baltic States as well as engagements in Syria and Iraq.
