Col. Antonio VIVOLO was born in Caserta on 06th January 1977 and enrolled in the Italian Air Force in 1995. Upon completion of the Air Force Academic studies, in 2000 he attended the NATO flying training program in Sheppard Air Force Base (AFB) in the US, obtaining his military pilot license in May 2001 on a T-38 aircraft. He attended AM-X fighter aircraft Operational Conversion Course and then assigned to the 51st Wing in Istrana AFB, 132nd Fighter Squadron. From 2002 to 2006 he covered several positions within 132nd FS. After being qualified as AM-X instructor pilot he was assigned to the 101st Operational Conversion Unit of the 32nd Wing in Amendola AFB, since 2007. He served in the advanced training environment for almost 5 years before moving back to the 51st Wing, where he was appointed 132nd Sq. Commander. From 2015 to 2017 he was stationed in the Air Force Academy as Commandant of a Cadet Class. After that, from 2017 up to 2023 he worked in the “Plans and Policy” Department of the Air Staff, in Capability and Requirements. At the beginning of 2023 he transitioned to the F-35A in Luke Air Force Base (US), and subsequently he was appointed 32nd Wing Commander in Amendola Air Force Base until summer 2025. Operationally wise, he deployed multiple times within ISAF operations in Afghanistan, both as Director of Operations and Commander of the Italian AM-X Task Group in Herat. Between 2021 and 2022, he was appointed as Italian National Contingent Commander Air and Task Force Air Commander in Kuwait. In 2014 he attended at the Allied Command and Staff College of the UK Defence Academy in Shrivenham (UK), and hold a Master in Arts in Defence Studies at King’s College London. He also holds a university degree in “International Political Sciences” (University of Naples, Italy) and a Master in Business Administration at the LUISS University in Rome. He is currently working in the National Armament Directorate as FCAS Tempest Director, and Senior Technical Representative for Italy to the trilateral Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP).
