Brigadier General Paolo Rubino

Chief of Staff of the Air Education Training Command / 3rd Air Region Italian Air Force

BGen Paolo RUBINO serves as Chief of Staff of the Air Education Training Command / 3rd Air Region, and Head of the International Flight Training School (IFTS) Program Office. He joined the Italian Air Force Academy in September 1993, and graduated in February 1997. From February 1997 he attended the Naval Flying Officer School in Pensacola, FLA (USA) and graduated in August 1998 achieving the full military qualification. From September 1998 he attended the Tri-National Tornado Training Establishment in Cottesmore (UK) and graduated in March 1999 achieving the qualification on Tornado fighter aircraft.

From November 1999 he was assigned to the 154th Squadron at the 6th Wing in Ghedi (Brescia), Italy. In 2003 he attended the Normal Course at the Institute for Aeronautical Sciences in Florence, Italy. From July 2004 till April 2005 he served at the Italian Air Force Staff – Strategic Plans. From September till November 2006 he partecipated to the “Storm Shadow Evaluation Trial (SET)” program at the testing range in Overberg (Southafrica). From April till June 2009 he participated to the “International Security and Assistance Force – (ISAF)” as Task Group Commander at Mazar-El-Sharif Air Base (Afghanistan).

In 2011 he participated to operation “Unified Protector” in support of Libya population as Task Group Commander at Trapani Air Base, Italy. From September 2011 till July 2012 he served as 154th Squadron Commander at the 6th Wing in Ghedi (Brescia), Italy. From August 2012 till July 2015 he was assigned to the Supreme Headquarters of Allied Powers in Europe (SHAPE) in Belgium where he worked at the Operations and Intelligence Division of the Allied Command for Operations (ACO). From September 2015 till September 2017 he served as Deputy for Operations at 6th Wing in Ghedi (Brescia), Italy.

From September 2017 till March 2019 he was assigned to the Italian Air Force Forces Command in Rome, Italy as Deputy Chief – Operations Office. From April 2019 till November 2019 he served as Italian National Contingent Commander at Ali Al Salem Air Base, Kuwait in support of Inherent Resolve. From November 2019 till September 2022 he was assigned to the Italian Air Force Forces Command in Rome, Italy as Chief – Operations Office.

From October 2022 till July 2024 he served as 2nd Wing Commander at Rivolto Air Base, Italy. He earned a Bachelor Degree of Strategic Sciences at Federico Secondo University in Naples, Italy and a Master Degree of Political Sciences at University of Trieste, Italy.

He successfully completed the United States Space Force West Space Scholar Seminar 2024-2025 and graduated with a Master Degree in International Public Policy at the Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies in Washington, DC. He is married to Carmela PELLEGRINO since August 2006 and they have two daughters, Rebecca (2007) and Diletta (2011).
