Air Marshal Isiaka Oladayo Amao was commissioned into the Nigerian Air Force in 1986. He is a fighter Pilot and a qualified flying instructor. He has commanded the Air Combat Training Group as well as the Strike Group in the Nigerian Air Force. He had a tour of duty in the Counterinsurgency Operations in North East Nigeria as Air Component Commander and Deputy Theatre Commander (Air). Air Marshal Amao worked in Defence Headquarters as Assistant Director of Operations and has held several appointments at the Headquarters Nigerian Air Force. The appointments include: Air Assistant to the Chief of the Air Staff, the Director of Policy, the Director of Training and the Director of Operations. He was the Air Officer Commanding Tactical Air Command, The Chief of Training and Operations as well as the Commandant Armed Forces Resettlement Centre before his current appointment as the Chief of the Air Staff. Air Marshal Amao has also had a tour of duty in London as the Deputy Defence Adviser at the Nigerian High Commission. The Air Marshal has participated in various operations both within and outside the borders of Nigeria.
Air Marshall Amao’s awards and decorations include: Distinguished Flying Star (DFS), Distinguished Services Star (DSS), as well as River Benue Star (RBS). Other awards include: Passed Staff Course (psc), Fellow National Defence University (fndu) China and Qualified Flight Instructor (QFI) amongst others.
