Colonel Vilis BAUSKA was born in 07 March 1968 in eastern part of Latvia. He joined Military Signal Engineer school in St.-Petersburg in 1987.
After the Latvia has regained independence he returned to Latvia and continued his education in Riga Technical University (RTU). He graduated RTU with master degree in land communications in 1993 and has joined Latvian National Armed Forces.
His duty ranges from platoon leader, company commander and Chief of Staff in multinational Baltic States battalion called BALTBAT.
Military education includes Military School, Joint Staff officer course in Baltic Defence College and various military courses.
Within Latvian National Armed Forces, he was assigned as Chief Tactics Department at National Defence Academy, Chief Operations (J-3) and Chief of Logistics (J-4) at Latvian National Armed Forces Joined Headquarters. He was also commander of Regional Logistic centre responsible for supporting Latvian Air Forces and National Guard units.
From August 2007 to October 2010 he assumed duty as Latvian National Military Representative Deputy at SHAPE and from August 2017 till September 2020 as Chief J-9 (CIMIC) at NATO Rapid Deployable Corps Italy.
Colonel has served as platoon leader in ISAF, and as staff officer had several short tours to Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan.
Colonel is married and have four daughters and four grandchildren.
His main hobby is beekeeping and running.
