Colonel Nathan Schwamburger

Col Nathan T. Schwamburger is the Commander, 779th Medical Wing, Sembach Kaserne, Germany. As Commander, he is responsible for the stand-up of AFMEDCOM’s sole medical wing for USAFEAFAFRICA. At FOC, he will lead five medical groups providing strategic planning, budgeting, programming, human resource management, deployment medicine, and medical readiness oversight to organize, train and equip approximately 2,700 medical professionals operating in one hospital and seven outpatient clinics. Col Schwamburger is responsible for generating a medically ready force, as well as ensuring the medical force is ready to deliver healthcare services support anywhere globally for humanitarian or combatant operations. Prior to this assignment, Col Schwamburger was the Command of the 48th Medical Group, Royal Air Force Lakenheath, United Kingdom.

Col Schwamburger is from Wheelersburg, Ohio. He graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Zoology in May 2002. He graduated from The Ohio State University, College of Dentistry receiving a Doctorate of Dental Surgery in June 2005.

Col Schwamburger entered active duty on July 4, 2005. His background includes clinical dentistry, dental education, and leadership positions at the squadron and group level. Col Schwamburger deployed to Liberia in support of Operation United Assistance to fight Ebola. He has also served on two humanitarian missions to Haiti and Peru, rendering care in support of SOUTHCOM’s New Horizons missions. From these experiences, Col Schwamburger has extensive knowledge of the AF Expeditionary Medical Support System. He is married to Amanda Harrell of Fayetteville, North Carolina. They have two children, HT (16) and Hadley (14).
