Brigadier Chris Wright studied Medicine at Bristol University and commissioned into the British Army in 1997. In 2000 he completed his training to be a Regimental Medical Officer and joined 2nd Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, in time for operational tours to Northern Ireland and Afghanistan. Following this he trained to become a Consultant in Emergency Medicine, interposing secondments to the National Health Service with further operational tours in Iraq, Afghanistan and beyond. He has completed twelve operational deployments, usually as a specialist in combat casualty retrieval – flying missions to MEDEVAC the most severely wounded soldiers back to hospital.
He has led over 1000 MEDEVAC missions and has published research into massive blood transfusions and the epidemiology of causes of death on the battlefield. In 2013 he was made the Defence Consultant Advisor in Pre-Hospital Emergency Care with responsibility for all aspects of emergency care in the field (forward of the field hospital). Chris is a graduate of the UK’s Royal Centre for Defence Studies and he is now working in the UK Ministry of Defence as 1* Head of Medical Operations and Capability. Brigadier Chris’ wife is a senior journalist turned communications director, and they have daughters aged 10 and 13 (both of whom think they are already aged 20).
