Air Commodore Angus Porter Porter

Air Commodore Porter joined the Royal Australian Air Force in 1995, graduating from the Australian Defence Force Academy in 1997. He completed pilot’s course in 1999 and subsequently flew the AP-3C Orion, VIP transport aircraft and the E-7A Wedgetail.


Air Commodore Porter Commanded No. 34 Squadron and also No. 42 Wing. His staff appointments include Aide de Camp to the Governor-General, Chief of Combat Operations (AOC-JOC) and Director Military Strategic Plans. Air Commodore Porter completed two years at the Australian Embassy, Washington DC, as the Air and Space Attache prior to his current appointment as Director General Air Combat Capability – Air Force in January 2025.


Air Commodore Porter has conducted operational deployments in support of border protection operations as well as Australian Defence Force operations in the Middle East. He completed USAF Air Command and Staff College where he graduated with a Masters of Military Operational Art and Science, and the USAF School of Advanced Air and Space Studies where he graduated with a Masters of Philosophy in Military Strategy in 2014. In 2024, Air Commodore Porter completed the US Capstone General and Flag Officers Course at the National Defence University, Washington DC.


In 2021 he was made a Member of the Order of Australia for his exceptional service in air combat operations management, organisational development, and the strategic planning for the Australian Defence Force.


Air Commodore Porter is married to his wonderful and very patient wife Kirsten and has two teenage children. He enjoys snow skiing, following Australian rugby and spending time with his family.
