Mihnea Cosmin Costoiu

Mihnea Costoiu is the Rector of the National University of Science and Technology POLITEHNICA Bucharest and has served as General Secretary of the Romanian National Council of Rectors since 2012. With a career spanning academia, public administration, and politics, he held several senior positions within the Romanian Ministry of Education between 2001 and 2014, including Secretary General, State Secretary, and Minister Delegate for Higher Education and Research. He was elected Senator in the Romanian Parliament in 2012 and re-elected in 2016, serving on committees focused on education, science, youth, sport, and foreign affairs. Mihnea Costoiu is actively engaged in European and international higher education initiatives, holding leadership and advisory roles with organisations including the European University Association (EUA), CESAER, and the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF). He currently serves as President of the AUF Regional Conference of Rectors for Central and Eastern Europe and is a member of the European Commission's European Skills High-Level Board. His professional affiliations reflect a longstanding commitment to advancing higher education, research, international collaboration, and innovation across Europe and beyond
