Deputy CHOD for Operations and Training Romanian Armed Forces

Lieutenant-General Iulian Berdilă has served as Deputy Chief of Defense for Operations and Training since April 2023. A graduate of the Field Artillery Officers School in Sibiu (1992), he began his career as an MLRS platoon leader and later held key roles in the 2nd Infantry Battalion "Călugăreni." Over the years, he has held multiple leadership and staff positions, including Chief of Staff in the 2nd Infantry Division, NATO integration planner, and Aide-de-Camp to the Chief of the Romanian General Staff. His operational deployments include Iraq (2006) and Afghanistan (2011). He previously served as Commander of the Romanian Land Forces (2020–2023), Commander of Multinational Division South-East (2019–2020), and held other significant command positions.

LTG Berdilă holds a BSc from the Romanian Land Forces Academy, a Master of Military Arts and Science from the U.S. Army School of Advanced Military Studies, and a Master of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College. He is a graduate of several U.S. Army courses, including the Command and General Staff College. He has received numerous national and international military honors, including the U.S. Bronze Star and the NATO Non-Article V Medal. He is fluent in English and was born on January 8, 1971, in Galați, Romania.
