Brigadier General Gunther Godefridis

Brigadier General Gunther Godefridis (born 13 July 1974, Leuven) graduated from the Royal Military Academy in 1998 as a civil engineer (electro-mechanics) and completed artillery training before joining the 2nd Artillery Regiment in 1999. In 2002, he graduated from the U.S. Army Field Artillery Captain's Career Course at Fort Sill, earning the prestigious Master Gunner Award. Between 2002 and 2008, he served at the Belgian Artillery Study and Research Centre, where he developed artillery procedures that remain in use today. Following advanced staff training, he joined COMOPSLAND G3 Training in 2009, leading the introduction of non-lethal weapons and Close Range Techniques within the Belgian Land Component. From 2012 to 2014, he served in the United States as Training and Operations Officer of the 1-76 Field Artillery Battalion and Fire Support Officer of the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division. He later contributed to the transformation of the Belgian Land Component before serving as Aide-de-Camp to NATO Supreme Allied Commanders Europe Generals Philip M. Breedlove and Curtis M. Scaparrotti (2015-2017). He commanded the Motorized Brigade Headquarters from 2020 and became Director Development & Readiness at Belgian Cyber Command in 2023, helping establish the Belgian Cyber Force. Promoted Brigadier General in September 2026, he became Advisor to the Chief of Defence, Chief Innovation Defence, and Commander Task Force Drones and Counter-Drones. His operational deployments include EUFOR DR Congo (2005) and ISAF Afghanistan (2012). He has received several international decorations, including the U.S. Bronze Star.
